Thesis
Dorothea Dix and John Galt reformed how patients in insane asylums were treated starting in 1844. The actions of these two people generated political and public awareness on how mentally disabled people were treated, represented, and valued by their caretakers in asylums and prisons.
Eastern state insane asylum
The Eastern State Insane Asylum was built in 1770. The name of the asylum was later changed to The Eastern State Hospital making it more sensitive to the public's feelings. The hospital burned down and was rebuilt to better accommodate the amount of patients beginning to attend the asylum. To this day the Eastern State Hospital still stands and now attends more than 2000 patients!
